How to compile your order numbers

Different components such as detector material, packaging and size combine to create Judson's detector model numbers.  Below is the information you will need to specify exactly the detector you require.  Judson's applications engineers and customer service representatives are also available to assist you in choosing the proper detector.

Some examples:

  • J16-5SP-R02M
  • J12TE2-66D-R250U
  • J15InSb-M204-S01M

Please read the following information to see how these model numbers were "built".  The order portions are color coded above

Material (Detector Series)

Detector Material Series
Germanium (Ge) J16

Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs)

J22, J23
Indium Arsenide (InAs) J12
Lead Sulfide (PbS) J13
Lead Selenide (PbSe) J14
Indium Antimonide (InSb) J10
PC Mercury Cadmium Telluride (HgCdTe) J15
PV Mercury Cadmium Telluride (PVMCT) J19

This "series" designation makes up the first part of the model number as signified in the GREEN part of the examples above.

Dewar / Package Style

You may choose which dewar type or style you would like your detector to be "packaged" in.  Judson supplies a large variety of packaging for our infrared detectors.  Please review the website information for your particular detector material to see the choices of dewars and packages.  Some of the most commonly used combinations are as follows:

Detector Material Most Commonly Used Packages
Germanium 18A, 5SP, 8SP, P1
Indium Gallium Arsenide 66G, 3CN, 5I, 18I
Indium Arsenide 18C, 37S, 66D, 3CN
Lead Sulfide TO-5, TO-8, TO-3, TO-37
Lead Selenide TO-5, TO-8, TO-3, TO-37
Indium Antimonide M204, M200, M205
Photoconductive Mercury Cadmium Telluride M204, 66C, 3CN, 66GE
Photovoltaic Mercury Cadmium Telluride 3CN, 66C, 66D, 37S, 18C

The second part of our model number is the package.   Please see the RED part of the above examples.

Active Area Size

Our detectors are available in sizes ranging from 0.25mm to 10mm.  They can be round as signified by an "R" in the model number or square as identified by an "S".  Detectors are measured in microns ("U") or millimeters ("M").  Thus, a 1/4 millimeter (250 microns) round detector would be signified as an R250U.  The BLUE segment of the examples shows the size and shape of the detector.

Thus, the examples shown above are identified as follows:

J16-5SP-R02M J16 Germanium 5SP Package Round active area; 2mm diameter
J12TE2-66D-R250U J12TE2 Thermoelectrically cooled Indium Arsenide 66D Package Round active area; 250µm diameter
J15InSb-M204-S01M J15InSb Mercury Cadmium Telluride / Indium Antimonide "Sandwich" M204 Dewar Square active area; 1mm x 1mm
